  • Monday Ideal 18 Fun Sailing and HarborQ Cookout

Every Monday (see calendar for dates) friends and families are welcome to set sail for an evening of casual, Ideal 18 fun afloat in Stonington Harbor.  Participants of all ages and abilities will be paired according to skill. We meet on the bricks at 5:00, assign boats, head out and are back on land by 7:00.  This is a volunteer driven weekly event so please consider what you can do to assist. Certified Ideal 18 volunteer skippers are always needed.

Those just wanting to enjoy the cookout may gather on the bricks starting at 6:00.  You may bring your own food to cook or enjoy Club provided protein, salads and desserts.  The regular menu is not available on these evenings.  Full bar and beverages are available. This is the most casual of evenings at SHYC and a true DIY gem.  Reservations are suggested

  • Tuesday:
    Special Olympics Team Practice

Our fleet of Ideal 18s is in use by Special Olympics athletes each Tuesday evening late June through the end of August.

  • Wednesday at 5:30pm:
    Stonington Harbor Dinghy Club Races

All boats 20’ and below are welcome.

Individual Ideal 18s may be reserved for the summer race series on a first come first reserved basis.

If you are looking for crew or would like to crew please contact the front desk.

At 5:00 each Thursday a a wonderful group of women of all ages (8-80) and abilities gather to enjoy casual sailing and each other’s company. Group happy hour and a delicious SHYC dinner with spouses and friends  follows the on water portion of the evening. Our Ideal 18 Women’s Sailing group promotes sailing and skill development in a casual and supportive environment.

During high wind and inclement weather conditions, we do not set sail but instead gather in the clubhouse to work on knots, sailing trivia or other sailing and skill building topics.

Special events throughout the season include weekend clinics, the Annual Ladies Challenge Regatta vs Essex Yacht Club, the season opener and end of the season celebrations.

  • Friday
