Education Event- Bill Hobbs
    

A nature writer for the New London Day, Bill Hobbs will share personal photographs and new scientific discoveries about animals like the black-capped chickadee, who, scientists now know, play a key role in alerting other animals about nearby predators, by sending warning calls that travel 100 mph through the forest and are understood by more than 50 different woodland creatures. Maggie Jones, with the Dennison Pequotsepos  Nature Center will be joining Mr Hobbs and bringing several live birds of prey for viewing.

Attendees will also enjoy learning about the unique life histories of minks, flying squirrels, harbor seals, herring gulls, ospreys, ruby-throated hummingbirds and many more birds and beasts that frequent our coasts, presented in a lively, educational and entertaining way.

Mr. Hobbs grew up in Weston, CT. and the Borough of Stonington, and has recently returned to Stonington to retire, after a 30-year career as a hotelier. He is currently writing a book about Barn Island, the wildlife and the people, who in the 1940’s, successfully protected and shaped the wetlands into what it is today.  The cost to attend is $5 for members, $10 for non-members, to register click HERE, click HERE to see who else is attending.
