Based on the responses to the recent survey we sent out, we have put together an exciting cruising program.  We plan to visit some harbors not recently explored by the club; it also includes many we have enjoyed in the past.  The dates have been approved at a recent calendar meeting and are being added to the website calendar as well.  We plan to modify this as requested by the cruising crew based on an upcoming Zoom meeting. (See link below and please join) You can also forward your requests to us directly.  This year we have four very exciting trips planned.
We will kick- off the season on Memorial Day weekend with a short local trip to Mystic Seaport and then Fishers Island’s West Harbor.  This will be nice as other non-cruising club members frequently join in for the social and educational aspects that we plan to set up at the Seaport.
In June we have planned a week-long trip to Eastern Long Island,  around Shelter Island and ending at our reciprocal club, Shelter Island Yacht Club, which we all have come to love.  Ports of call may include Block Island, Montauk, Three Mile Harbor, Sag or West Neck Harbor, and Coecles Harbor.  Participants have always enjoyed these locations as there is lots to do including hiking, biking, exploring, shopping, great dining, and of course great cocktails
In July we have planned a long weekend to Jamestown and Newport, RI.  Again, lots to do and see.   We would like to hold a group dinner if COVID restrictions are eased by that time.  This location will also allow non-cruising members the opportunity to drive up and enjoy the social activities.
Our grand finale is a trip to Maine in August which has not been done in quite some time.  So far, we have 12 boats that are already committed and are sharing our excitement.  We plan to all meet in Booth Bay on the 20th.  This week was set up to allow the sailors to pass through the Cape Cod Canal at a good time of day and proceed up the coast over 4-5 days.  Obviously, the power boaters have a lot more liberty on timing and can make the transit easier in little time.  Some sailors may choose a more direct course and sail through the night. Ports of call will include, Tenants Harbor, Camden, Vinal Haven, Rockland, and Christmas Harbors.
We look forward to cruising with you.  Let’s hope COVID is well under control.
Happy Cruising,
Dick Whipple and Jay Benet
