Ideal 18

Sailing is a fun activity for many people who enjoy water sports and outdoor recreation. The Stonington Harbor Yacht Club (SHYC) has a fleet of Ideal 18 boats, which are perfect for day sailing. These keelboats provide a stable and comfortable platform for sailors of all skill levels. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced sailor, you can enjoy a leisurely afternoon cruise in the harbor or participate in the Stonington Harbor Wednesday Night Racing series with our fleet.

The public is invited to sail an Ideal 18 with a qualified SHYC skipper. To schedule a sail, please call the SHYC front desk at (860) 535-0112 at least five business days in advance, and we will match you with a skipper and an available time slot. Participation is limited to two outings per individual, and the cost is $25 per sail. This is a fantastic opportunity to try out a keelboat equipped with a self-tacking jib.
