Opera Night- The Bartered Bride

Just in time for Valentine’s Day SHYC presents The Bartered Bride, Bed?ich Smetana's sparkling comedy of love, arranged and unarranged.  Young Marie has fallen for the penniless Hans, but a marriage broker has persuaded her parents that she should wed the son of a rich landowner.  She refuses to accept the marriage contract and a great deal of bargaining ensues on all sides, during which Hans tricks the matchmaker into paying him to turn Marie down.  At last Hans reveals a long-forgotten secret which proves him to be the rightful man to ask for Marie’s hand in marriage.  Lucia Popp and Siegfried Jerusalem star in this Otto Schenk production, sung in German with English subtitles.  Adam Fischer conducts the Vienna State Opera.  A prix fixe Bohemian dinner will be served at intermission.
